Would You Use Facebook to Pay Friends?

Recently leaked screenshots have revealed that there will soon be a payment option added to the Facebook Messenger app. This means that you will be able to send money to your friends anytime and anywhere, providing that you are connected to the internet.

In order to access this feature, users will be required to add their credit or debit card, which will then permit them to make payments to any of their Facebook friends.

Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s CEO, has spoken in the past about the plans to introduce these payment options to the site, saying that, “over time there will be some overlap between Messenger and payments. The payments piece will be a part of what will help drive the overall success and help people share with each other and interact with businesses.”

This has raised many questions regarding users’ safety and security when using this service; as it is not uncommon for people to have their accounts hacked on the social media site.

To try and combat these issues, Facebook will be releasing an in-app security code with each transaction, which must be entered correctly for the payment to be processed.

Many users are still feeling dubious about this new addition to the social media site as it is unlikely that Facebook can guarantee that their money is 100% safe. Online banking and Paypal have become popular methods of payment but it has undoubtedly taken a long time for these sites to gain the trust of the customers.

There are many questions which have not been answered, like whether the company will charge for these transactions and if there is a limit to how much can be sent at any one time. The site it yet to launch this feature so it seems that we will just have to wait patiently to see the results!
