Snapchat Launches 3-Dimensional Filters

If you have logged into Snapchat this week, you may have noticed a big change on the platform. The company has extended its filters, now allowing users to edit the world around them in 3D.

Snapchat World Lenses can be accessed through the app when using the rear facing camera. After tapping the camera screen, the new filters will appear for you to choose from.

Up to now, 3D filters that have been available include a floating “OMG”, cloud, rainbow and flowers. The company has said that it will update the 3D filters “daily”, giving users a new experience each day.

If you want to move an object closer or further away, just swipe up and down the screen. To move an object, press and hold it before dropping it into a better position.

In a blog post, Snapchat said; “We launched Lenses over a year ago as a whole new way to express ourselves on Snapchat. Since then, we’ve become puppies, puked rainbows, face-swapped with our best friends – and begun to explore how Lenses can change the world around us.”

“We’re adding new ways to use Lenses. While Snapping with the rear-facing camera, simply tap the Camera screen to find new Lenses that can paint the world around you with new 3D experiences!”

It seems that it’s not just Snapchat that has been trying to enter the world of “augmented reality.” In the F8 conference earlier this week, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a camera effects platform that will give developers the opportunity to build their own effects.

But do we really need these types of features on other platforms? Many Facebook users were unimpressed when they recently introduced Stories, which is almost identical to the one on Snapchat.
