Snapchat Has Changed Its Design- And Users Aren’t Happy!

If you have been on Snapchat recently, you may have noticed a change in the way the photo-sharing app looks. A new version began rolling out earlier this week and has seen a complete redesign.

These changes have already received criticism from many users, probably because it is difficult to use and hard to find your favourite features.

The most noticeable change to the app is the new Friends section which contains your received snaps, direct messages, group chats and Stories. Instead of ordering Stories chronologically, it now orders it by the people you snap most. This means that if they aren’t in your top friends and you want to watch their Stories, you will have to search their name in the search bar.

For many people, this is much less simple than being able to navigate to a separate Stories screen, where you can see Stories in a full list.

Another noticeable change is the new Discover page. When you swipe left, you will be taken to video content from brands, companies and publishers. Paid advertising is the biggest revenue for Snapchat and probably the reason they have chosen to split the app up in such a way.

However, the new version of Snapchat isn’t unexpected. Back in November, the company announced that it would be changing its design and despite many users asking for the old version back, Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel reported a 40% increase in users viewing content from its Discover section.

In a tweet reply, the company said; An update as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope you’ll enjoy it once you settle in. Keep in mind that it’s not possible to revert to a previous version of Snapchat.”

At the moment, the new version of the app is available to 40 million users and everyone else can expect to see the update by the end of the quarter.

What do you think of the Snapchat update? Has it put you off using the app? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter or Facebook!
