Smarter search from Google

By piranha

8th June 2012

In a bid to provide more information directly on its own pages, Google has revamped its search engine so that instead of simply matching keywords on its results, it will provide more context.

Results shown on Google previously have been based on historical data on search habits and keywords. Known as ‘The Knowledge Graph’, the new search will show additional information on the right hand side of the search results page, including videos and pictures and is being launched in the United States before being rolled out across the globe.

It is believed that Google will be hoping that the changes will increase the dwell time spent on sites that it receives advertising revenues from.

Bing has recently revealed plans to integrate social networks, including Twitter and Facebook into its search results for the first time.
