New Facebook Camera Feature

By piranha

3rd April 2017

Last week, Facebook released a new camera feature on its mobile app: Facebook Camera.

Ever wanted to hang out with Minions? Or be a superhero? Maybe even get attacked by James Cameron’s Alien? Well, now you can!

I always wanted to be a Power Ranger!

Facebook’s fresh update introduces a camera icon that allows mobile users to apply photo and video filters. This software utilises either the front or backward-facing camera on user’s the mobile device, enabling a host of awesome masks, frames and interactive filters.

After snapping a photo or shooting a video, people can then share their creations directly across the social network. Effects include characters from these upcoming Hollywood movies:

  • Alien: Covenant
  • Despicable Me 3
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

That’s not all: there’s loads more to explore on the software new update. This introduces functions like those already available on Instagram and other social networks. We’re guessing Facebook wanted in on the action!

A post on Facebook’s official blog explains that Facebook’s software designers wanted to ‘make it fast, fun and easy for people to share creative photos and videos with whomever they choose, for however long they choose.’ With including videos as well as photos, they certainly seem to have done that.

This software is another expansion into multimedia from a social media platform that clearly recognises the capabilities of current smartphones.

In terms of sharing, users even have the option to do so on their Story or directly with specific friends. This brings an element of flexibility that we think a lot of people will enjoy. We certainly had fun testing it!

Have you had a go on the new Facebook Camera feature? Why not share your photos with Piranha? You can find us on Facebook and Twitter.

We’d love to hear from you!
