Logo and search page revamp for Google

By piranha

23rd September 2013

The world’s most visited web address – Google – has begun rolling out changes which sees a redesign of the homepage and features a new, reshaped logo, plus the replacement of the old menu bar with a smaller selection of links on the right hand side of the page.

The changes are the first to the Google logo since 2010 and come in the same month that Google’s competitor’s also made updates, with Bing amending their search tool and Yahoo updating their logo. However, not all users will be able to see the redesign yet.

A spokeswoman for Google said that similar changes would now be “slowly rolled out” across its products.

Sarah Rotman Epps, an analyst at Forrester Tech Consultancy said “This is the season for consumer tech updates and whether you sell a product or it’s free everyone wants to look fresh ahead of the Christmas shopping season.”

“What they are doing is actually pretty subtle and that’s because these software companies depend on user loyalty – they don’t want to do anything that would alienate their customers.”
