Live Video has taken the world of social media by storm!

This kind of video is a great way of engaging with your audience in a very immediate and personal way. As well as interacting with others through things like opinion or comedy, live video can be a very useful avenue for digital marketing.

3 of the world’s largest social networks, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have all released their own versions in recent months. But which one is the best?

In a recent blog post, the Meet Edgar team discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each live video service. They also highlight Facebook as the most established and obvious option. Facebook has had much longer than the others to iron out issues and integrate new features.

Facebook live was launched in April of 2016 and is a powerful marketing tool thanks to its ability to target specific types of people for your videos. This can help increase the outreach for any videos you publish.

Facebook live also saves any videos you make and uploads them to your account afterwards. This sets it apart from other social networks because users can engage with your content even if they didn’t catch it live.

Launched in November 2016, Instagram’s live video service does not save any videos you broadcast. Its outreach is decidedly more limited right from the off.

For marketing purposes, this appears to make Instagram a less effective choice than Facebook. However, the very nature of Instagram and its average user can make it the best choice for more niche advertising campaigns.

Twitter’s live video service is comparatively new, having only been launched to mobile users in December of last year. It offers features more akin to Facebook’s, allowing you to save videos and edit who can view them.

Each of these social media live video services differ in terms of comment management, so the best choice can depend on your industry and the type of video (comedy, informative etc.) you wish to broadcast.

As we enter 2017, one thing is for sure: it’s becoming more and more important to have a varied and engaging online presence. According to ThinkChrysalis, ‘online marketing is extremely important for all businesses because it has a huge influence on the way customers make purchasing decisions.’

When ‘90% of users’ say that product videos help them to make decisions, if your marketing strategy doesn’t include video, you could potentially be hurting your conversion rates.
