Latest Google Panda Update Released

26th September 2014

Google has recently announced that the latest version of its Panda Update has been released. The “slow roll-out” began earlier this week and was confirmed through a post on Google+.

The Panda update is designed to penalise “thin” or poor content from ranking well and will affect around 3-5% of search queries worldwide. The update will take a little while to be completed and will probably continue into next week before search result fluctuations settle down.

While previous Panda updates were bad news for many businesses, the latest update is set to let high quality small and medium-sized sites rank better. The post released on Google+ states:

“Based on user (and webmaster!) feedback, we’ve been able to discover a few more signals to help Panda identify low-quality content more precisely. This results in a greater diversity of high-quality small- and medium-sized sites ranking higher, which is nice.”

Whilst the full effect of this is yet to be seen, this sounds like better news for most businesses compared to the harsh penalties which were incurred by many sites with previous updates.

The update also means that websites which were penalised in previous Panda updates will have a chance to emerge if amends have been made. So for those who got hit last time and then made alterations, next week may see an increase in traffic if the changes were good enough.

On the other hand, sites which have not been affected previously may suffer at the hands of this update. If you see a noticeable drop in traffic over the next week, Panda may very well be to blame.

With the knowledge of this update it is a good idea to keep an eye on the traffic to your website over the coming week or so to see if you will be affected.
