Instagram Rebrands with New Logo

Since it was first launched in 2010, Instagram has become extremely popular with people all around the world. Each month, more than 400 million users access the app to share images and videos with friends and family.

If you have been on the platform recently, you may have noticed that it looks a little bit different. On Wednesday, Instagram changed their iconic logo to a brand new design, much to the surprise of users. Before, the logo for the app was a brown and cream retro camera accompanied by a rainbow stripe. The new logo has a white outline of a camera and a sunset purple, orange and pink background.

It is thought that the company’s latest move is an attempt to move away from the common misconception, that the app is just for photos.

As well as posting your latest snaps, Instagram can now be used to share videos, animations and drawings, as well as adding cool filters.

It’s not just the logo that has changed on the app, a basic black and white design has also been incorporated for all menus and icons.

In their blog post, the company said; “Today we’re introducing a new look. You’ll see an updated icon and app design for Instagram. Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form. You’ll also see updated icons for our other creative apps: Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse.”

“We’ve made improvements to how the Instagram app looks on the inside as well. The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app.”

Instagram is owned by Facebook, meaning that there is a lot of pressure for the app to live up to expectations. No doubt, this will be the first move of many to improve the design and layout of the service.
