Instagram Introduces Mute Button

Are you tired of seeing certain people’s posts on Instagram but don’t want to block or unfollow them? Well, the platform’s new feature may be the perfect solution!

Earlier this week, they announced that users will soon be able to mute people’s posts. This means that you will not longer see Stories or posts in your Newsfeed from the account you have muted.

And the good news is that the other person will be none the wiser!

To mute an account, you will need to tap the “…” which appears in the corner of the post. You will then be offered several different options, including “Mute”.

Once you select “Mute”, you will then be able to choose whether you want to stop seeing their posts, Stories or both.

Alternatively, you can mute a person by visiting their Instagram profile, or pressing down on their Story for a few seconds and selecting the option.

In a blog post, Instagram said: “We’re introducing mute in feed, a new way to control what posts you see on Instagram. The new feature lets you hide posts in feed from certain accounts, without unfollowing them.”

“With this change, you can make your feed even more personalized to what matters to you.”

“When you mute an account, you can still see posts on their profile page and get notified about comments or posts you’re tagged in. The accounts you mute will not be aware that you’ve muted them.”

If you decide that you want to see posts from this person in the future, this isn’t a problem. The accounts can be unmuted at any time.

The feature is available to some iOS users already and should be rolled out to everyone else in the next few weeks. However, you will need to make sure that your app is up to date if you want access to the mute functionality.

Do you think the new Mute feature is a good idea? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook or Twitter!
