Google Launches New Video App

16th August 2016

In an attempt to compete with Apple-owned FaceTime, Microsoft’s Skype and Facebook Messenger, Google has launched its very own video chatting app, called Duo.

It’s very similar to the other video services in terms of how it works and its functionality. One thing that is different is that it shows the user who is calling them so that they can choose whether to accept or decline, a feature which the company has called “knock, knock”.

Making a video call to your friends is simple. All you need is their phone number, unlike many other video services which require both people to setup an account.

It will soon be made available to anyone with Google Android or Apple iPhone operating systems. Even better, it will be completely free!

In order to make the most of the video app, you will need to have a fast internet connection otherwise poor video quality and resolution may occur.

Duo will be rolled out to users all over the globe in the next couple of days. The company hopes that the new app will be a much more reliable way to chat with your friends, family and colleagues, compared to its other video service Google Hangouts.

It seems that the search giant is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to improve the web for users. Just a couple of weeks ago, they unveiled plans to add robotic assistants that will find out information and can even book cinema tickets and restaurant reservations on your behalf.

Will you be using Google’s Duo app when it’s released? Let us know what you think of company’s latest move on Facebook or Twitter!
