Facebook Begins Testing a Dislike Button

Want to show your friends that you don’t like something on Facebook? You will be able to do this sooner than you think!

The social media giant, which has 1.86 billion active users each month, has reportedly begun testing a dislike button on the platform.

However, the feature will work differently to the Like button, which can be used on content whether it’s shared publicly or privately. The “thumbs down” button will only be available on Facebook’s Messenger service, at least for now.

Users will be able to access the new feature by hovering over the small face that appears when you click the three dots next to a message. You will then have the option to add the “thumbs down” or other reactions, like happy, sad and LOL emojis.

The company confirmed the feature to TechCrunch, saying; “We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”

Until now, Facebook has resisted adding a dislike button as they believed it would increase negativity on the platform. But by only making it available within Messenger, they are hoping that it will instead be used as another way to say “no”.

At the moment, the Dislike button is being tested on a small group of users, meaning that not everyone can use it just yet. Facebook hasn’t said when it will be rolled out to the rest of the world but it’s likely to be in the next few months.

Do you think that the Dislike button is a good idea? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook or Twitter!
