5 Mistakes Businesses Are Making On Facebook

With more than 1.59 billion people accessing Facebook each month, it has undoubtedly become the most popular social network. It is now being used by businesses throughout the world to raise brand awareness and communicate with new and existing customers.

But is the key to success really as simple as setting up an account? Here are 5 of the most common mistakes that businesses are making on Facebook.

1- Not having a strategy

It’s all well and good saying that you want to gain customers through Facebook but how are you actually going to do it? One of the biggest errors that businesses make is setting up an account without thinking about strategy. It is extremely important to outline your goals and the steps that you are going to take to reach them. This will give you the structure that you need to make your social media strategy a success!

2- Only posting about your business

Although the main purpose of being on Facebook is to raise awareness of your brand, it doesn’t mean that you should only post about your company. These types of posts are good in small doses but can be annoying for followers when posted all of the time. Try to mix it up with different types of content, such as industry related news stories, photos, videos and conversation starters to keep your audience engaged. It is also important not to go too far in the other direction and forget to mention your business at all as followers still want to know about your products and services.

3- Posting at the wrong time

One thing that many people overlook is the time that they are posting on Facebook. According to HubSpot, the best times to post on the platform are between 12-1pm at the weekend, 3-4pm on Wednesdays and 1-4pm on Thursdays and Fridays. Engagement rates can be up to 18% higher during these peak times, which is something to keep in mind when scheduling your posts.

4- Not spending enough time on the platform

Your Facebook following won’t grow overnight, which is why you will need to be prepared to spend time on the network. There are many tasks that can be done daily to improve your social media presence, such as responding to messages, connecting with influencers and sharing content with your followers. This can be quite time consuming but is definitely worthwhile for your business! If you don’t have time to do this yourself, you should think about hiring a professional like Piranha who can manage social media accounts on your behalf.

5- Giving up

If you find that your Facebook page isn’t doing as well as your hoped, you shouldn’t give up. In this situation, abandoning the platform is the worst thing that you can do. Instead, you should evaluate what is and isn’t working for your business before making changes to your strategy. This won’t necessarily work straight away and could take a few times to get right, but don’t lose hope, you will get there eventually!
